Brush Alert: How to Properly Clean your Brushes
Hi, hello! Let’s be real. I know cleaning our makeup brushes is not the most exciting thing to do, especially for us lazy gals there, I feel you. But why do we really need to do it? They get dirty too, especially if you use them every single day. Think of the dirt that the brush absorbs… And also if you don’t have that much eyeshadow brushes, you surely need to clean it because the eyeshadow color will stay on your brush.
There are many makeup brush cleaners/cleansers you can buy in the market, but unfortunately some of them are kinda pricy. I myself can’t afford that, and even if I could, it’s not practical for me to use it every day. So I searched and searched and searched different tips on how to clean my brushes without the need to splurge. And that’s what I want to share with you today. I’ll show you how I clean some of my brushes. For the past 2 years, this is what I do and I assure you that it works! Guess what? The materials we’ll use are all found on your own house! Here’s what we’ll need.
- plastic plate or any flat container
- shampoo or dishwashing liquid (either of the two will work)
- olive oil (OPTIONAL)
First, you put a little amount of shampoo or dishwashing liquid (and olive oil if you want to) on the plate or any container. Just like this:
After that, you swirl your brushes on it until the color and dirt of the brush comes off. Be gentle.
As I swirl my foundation brush, notice how the color comes off. That’s a good thing because you can already see that it is working. All of the dirt will also come off. After you’ve done that, carefully rinse your brushes.
Notice how the tip of my angled foundation brush returns into its original color (white) and also the other brushes. Just wait for it to dry and bam! they’re all ready to use!
Dry your brushes like this instead of placing them where the brush side is on the top(omg I suck at explaining things hahaha) to avoid brush “hair fall”. (Also avoid laying them flat to dry because sometimes it causes the water to just stay on the brush and you will have a hard time drying them.) If you have a makeup brush rack, then use it. As for me, I don’t have any that is why I dry my brushes this way. If I need to use that specific brush immediately, I even hang it on our clothesline using clothespin to make the drying process faster. It’s just about that good strategy, gurl.
