My Brow Routine/Tricks

Hey! It's been a while since my last blog post, I know. Since it's already our summer vacation, it's just right to continue posting in this blog again. I really missed sharing my ideas and thoughts bc I feel like I'm already talking (using the keyboard). Hahaha!

Today, I'm gonna show you how I do my brows, bc our brows are our top priority especially nowadays. Although there are many tutorials there about brows, this will just be an additional idea/information/way to help you do your brows. There are also some of you requesting my brow routine, so here it is!

I've been doing my brows since I was in Grade 9, which is about 3 years ago. That means that's when I start filling them in every single day. I really got addicted. At that time, I really thought I was doing a great job. I always feel like my brows are great and they are excellently filled in. Until the day comes when I was looking at my old photos and I was just laughing at myself because "Girl, those brows were never great." Hahaha! I probably should post the evolution of my brows. Lol kidding.

Okay enough reminiscing the old days, Rai, Back to the topic. There's nothing really special about my brow routine. I don't use multiple products if it's just for my everyday look. But I never do the "natural-looking-brow". I always opt for the "kilay-on-fleek" type of brow. I have learned at the Bobby Carlos' makeup workshop that you can never teach a person on how to exactly do their eyebrows because we all have different brow shapes. But we can show ways on how to improve their brow game. And that's what I'm going to show you. I will share to you my tricks to make the "brow-work" much easier.

1. You gotta remove excess/stray brow hairs.

If you want your brows to look really neat, you obviously need to remove the excess/stray brow hairs. It's either you pluck them or shave them. If you're feelin' fancy, you can always go to a salon to get them waxed (if your brows are really thick) or try the threading method if you have the money (if it's your first time to try this, just please try not to scream. Hahaha kidding). If you're doing this yourself and you don't know how to shape them, just follow your natural brow shape. Do it slowly to avoid any mistake. Practice makes everything easier so you gotta practice until you can finally do it without effort. ;)

2. Choose the best color for your brows.

This is really important because the color you'll choose will be responsible for the totality of the look. When I'm just starting, I don't really care about the color, as long as it says "brown". But tbh, not all brow products that claims to be "brown" is really brown. Some are orangey while some are reddish. You really need to test it out before buying. You need to look for that brow product, whether it's a pencil, powder or wax, it's shade has to be ashy. That's what really suits us Filipinos.

I really have plenty to recommend since I've experimented with different brow products before. If you're on a budget, the best choice for me is the Maybelline Fashion Brow. It costs about P299.00, I believe. It's a mini brow kit that has two (2) brow powders, a lighter one and a darker one, and one (1) wax. I loved it since it gave me the most "not-fake" look that I want. Ever since I tried it, I sticked to brow powders rather than brow pencils since it gives you more natural looking brows. If you prefer eye pencils, I can also recommend Maybelline Fashion Brow Duo Shaper or the one that I did a review on, the Catrice Brow Stylist. But if you wanna splurge for your brows, there's a lot out there that you can pick. Personally, I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Dark Brown everyday. Unfortunately, it's not available here in the Philippines yet, but some online shops have it (just beware of the fake ones). I really can recommend that one since it has a wide range of shades and it will last a very long time. That's what I use everyday. Benefit also has amazing brow products that you may try.

3. Line the tail/end of your brows first and then fill it in.

Many girls start by lining their brow head (start of your brows) first and the tail last. There's nothing wrong with it. You do you, and I do me. Hehehe.  But what I do is I line the tail of my brows first and the brow head last. Here's the sequence:

(brow tail - brow arch - brow head)

What's the difference? I think for the beginners out there, it will be so much easier to make your brows more even and to make the shape that you want for your brows.

1st: Lining the brow tail

2nd: Fill it in

As you can see on the photo captions, I lined the tail of my brows first then eventually filled it in. In my case, I used a brow pencil to line the outer edge and used a pomade/wax to fill in the inside of the line. The line served as the guide for filling in. But you don't have to use two products for those two steps. You can use whatever product for both steps. Just make sure you use it with a light hand. If you see harsh lines, use a brow brush or a spoolie to soften it.

4. Fill in the brow head.

For the last step, you fill in the start of your brows or what we call the brow head. If you use a light hand when filling in the arch and the tail, you need the lightest hand for filling in the brow head because you want it to be the lightest part of your brows just like the famous trend now, the "ombre effect" brows. However, it is not just a trend. It really makes the brow look realistic. In some cases, you still need to slightly line the outer edge of your brow head. But if you have perfect thick brows, you obviously don't need to do that. But for my brows, I really need to do that because I don't have any hair on my brow head. Again, just do it with the LIGHTEST hand possible. Don't forget to use your brow brush or spoolie to soften any harsh lines.

As you can see in the picture, the tail is the darkest part of the brow and the color fades through the brow head. If you have unruly brow hairs, you can set it with a brow mascara.

ADDITIONAL TIPS:

> If you're using a powder, wax or a pomade, it surely requires a brush. The perfect brush to use is the angled eyeliner brush. For softening any harsh lines or edges, your best friend will be the spoolie. Although we can also use the regular brow brush, I just prefer to use the spoolie more often. It's always up to you what tool you use as long as it works and you're comfortable using it.

> As I mentioned earlier, use the product that you love and you're comfortable with. I think that after you try many products, you can discover that one product that you will love the most. And I really believe that using it helps you to do your "brow-work" much easier and better because you strongly believe that it will work the best. As for me, my most favorite so far is what I use everyday, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Dark Brown. It always excites me to use it because I know it will make my brows look bangin'. And I know your fave product will do that too. :)

That's it! I hope this post helped you improve your brow routine. It worked on me and I strongly believe it will work on you too. After you did your brows, you can now take your pacute selfies just like what I did. Hahahaha!

I really believe that practice makes perfect. Though some of you may say that nobody's perfect (hi ya'll devious people hahaha), practice at least makes you better in your work. If you're not yet satisfied with what you did, just practice. It's always the answer for most girls who say they can't perfect their brows.
